Plow bolts are specialty fasteners developed for applications requiring a flush mounting surface. Unlike carriage bolts, which are intended primarily for wood assemblies, plow bolts are designed to secure replaceable wear components used on construction, agricultural, mining and other heavy equipment. Their countersunk heads allow the fastener to sit below or flush with the working surface, reducing wear and preventing interference with moving material.

ASME B18.9 recognizes several plow bolt head styles, each developed for specific service conditions. The most common include No. 3 head plow bolts with a round countersunk head and square neck, No. 7 head plow bolts with a reverse key design, and No. 4 and No. 6 head styles available in both regular head and repair head configurations. Selecting the proper head style depends upon the equipment manufacturer's design and the component being secured.

G-Fast manufactures standard and made-to-print plow bolts for OEM production and replacement wear components. Standard products are available where applicable, while custom configurations are produced directly from customer drawings, specifications or approved samples.

Low carbon plow bolts are commonly manufactured to ASTM A307 requirements, while medium carbon Grade 5 applications may utilize ASTM A449. Materials, heat treatment and protective finishes are selected according to the service environment and customer specifications.

Every custom project begins with FASTENEERING®, our engineering review process that evaluates drawings, materials, tolerances and manufacturing methods before production. This helps ensure the finished plow bolt satisfies the functional requirements of the equipment while supporting efficient production.
