Step bolts are members of the round head square neck bolt family, but differ from carriage bolts by incorporating a larger diameter, lower-profile rounded head. The increased bearing surface distributes clamping loads over a larger area, helping reduce pull-through in wood and other softer materials while providing a smooth finished appearance.
Step bolts are commonly specified for equipment access steps, platforms, walkways, ladders, docks, recreational products and other assemblies where a larger bearing area is desirable. The square shoulder beneath the head engages the mating material during tightening, preventing rotation and allowing installation from one side of the assembly.
G-Fast manufactures standard and made-to-print step bolts directly from customer drawings, specifications and approved samples. Dimensions including head diameter, shoulder length, shank diameter, thread length and grip length may be modified to satisfy OEM design requirements.
Materials include carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel and bronze together with customer-specified materials. Zinc plating, black oxide, passivation and other protective finishes are available depending upon the application and environmental exposure.

Round head bolts may also be manufactured with a standard square shoulder, a knurled shoulder, a plain cylindrical shoulder or without a shoulder entirely, depending upon the application. Secondary machining operations, drilling, special threads and custom coatings are available when specified.
