Round head square neck bolts are a family of specialty fasteners designed to prevent bolt rotation during assembly while presenting a smooth finished head on the exposed side of the joint. The family includes carriage bolts, plow bolts and step bolts, each developed to solve a different fastening problem while using a square neck or similar anti-rotation feature beneath the head. Although these products share common characteristics, they are not interchangeable and should be selected according to the application, material being joined and service requirements.

G-Fast manufactures both standard and made-to-print round head square neck bolts for OEM and industrial applications. Standard products are supplied to recognized industry standards, while custom fasteners are manufactured directly from customer drawings, CAD models or approved samples. Production methods are selected according to part geometry, material, quantity and delivery requirements, allowing the finished product to meet demanding dimensional and performance specifications.

Carriage bolts are the best-known member of this product family. Originally developed for wooden carriage construction, they remain the preferred fastener for wood-to-wood and wood-to-metal assemblies. As the nut is tightened, the square shoulder beneath the rounded head is drawn into a properly sized hole, preventing rotation and allowing installation from one side of the assembly. The smooth head also provides an attractive finished appearance where a projecting hex head is unnecessary or undesirable.

In addition to standard ASME carriage bolts, G-Fast supports OEM production requirements for short square neck carriage bolts, ribbed neck carriage bolts and customer-specific configurations. Depending on the application, these variations improve resistance to rotation, accommodate thinner materials or satisfy unique assembly requirements.

Plow bolts serve a completely different purpose. Rather than providing a decorative rounded head, they are designed to produce a flush mounting surface for replaceable wear components used on construction, agricultural and mining equipment. Countersunk heads reduce interference with moving material while allowing worn cutting edges, blades and wear plates to be replaced without damaging the supporting structure. Various head styles covered by ASME B18.9 are available depending upon the equipment manufacturer's requirements.

Step bolts share the rounded head appearance of carriage bolts but incorporate a larger, lower-profile head that distributes bearing loads over a greater surface area. They are commonly used on steps, platforms and access points where increased bearing area helps reduce pull-through in wood or other softer materials while providing a smooth finished appearance.

Materials commonly include low carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel and bronze, together with customer-specified materials when required. Protective finishes such as zinc plating, black oxide, passivation and other coatings are available to improve corrosion resistance or satisfy customer specifications. Metric and inch configurations are supported.

Every custom project begins with FASTENEERING®, G-Fast's process of reviewing customer drawings, materials, tolerances and manufacturing methods before production begins. Recommendations are made whenever manufacturability, cost or lead time can be improved, with all changes implemented only after customer approval. Whether the requirement is a standard production fastener or a completely custom component, G-Fast supports prototype development, low-volume production, OEM manufacturing and scheduled blanket releases.

Round head square neck bolts combine dependable anti-rotation performance with product-specific designs developed for different industrial applications.

  • Carriage bolts provide one-sided tightening for wood and structural assemblies.

G-Fast manufactures standard and custom round head square neck bolts from customer drawings, CAD files and approved samples. Head styles, square neck dimensions, shoulder lengths, thread lengths, shank diameters, materials and finishes can be modified to meet specific OEM requirements.

Secondary operations including machining, drilling, thread modifications, heat treatment and protective coatings are available when specified. Every project is reviewed through FASTENEERING® to determine the most efficient manufacturing method while maintaining the customer's engineering intent.

To expedite quotations, customers should provide the part drawing or specification, quantity, material, finish, required certifications and requested delivery schedule.
